A mix from our boy Pablo here, recreating his set from one of the infamous boat parties at Croatia’s Electric Elephant festival this past July. He’s had the honour of playing the festival each year since it’s inception in 2008, and it’s slowly but surely turned into his favourite week of the year. It’s packed with amazing people with a real thirst and passion for tunes, spawned as it is by The Unabombers, who created one of the modern world’s finest clubnights, Electric Chair. This was a monthly party running in Manchester for 13 years, famed for a mystic brew of funk, soul, hip hop, freaky deaky Rn’B and diva disco all the way up to gutbucket house and techno.
The festival is a week long extension of that spirit, with sweet and mellow chilled out balaeric vibes at the Beach Bar each day, before mayhem ensues in the evening in the psychedelic 70′s flashback that is Barbarella’s nightclub. In between you have two boat parties each day, live bands on the outdoor stage, and some of the most pleasant sights you could possibly nurse a hangover with…..They’ve already got their early bird tickets for 2012 on sale, with Andrew Weatherall confirmed to return for a 4th year in a row along with Lowlife DJ’s, renowned Manchester man of records Balaeric Mike, and of course the Unabombers themselves. With previous headliners including the likes of Francois K, Derrick Carter and Theo Parrish there is sure to be some serious heat added to that list in the coming months…
There is always a decent Irish contingent on board at EE, with local hero Billy Scurry’s appearances on the climatic Monday evening boat party already the stuff of EE legend and edits maestro Michael McKenna of Keep Schtum joining Pablo and Dom Servini of London’s Wah Wah label on the boat this year. His edit of Odysssey’s ‘Hang Together’ has become a nailed on anthem with the Electriks crowd, and he could be seen grinning from ear to ear as The Unabombers dropped it on the Beach Bar this year. In previous years Nightflight, Bodytonic and External Sounds Dj’s have also graced the festival, so if you can’t get through a week without a good dose of begorrah and begosh you’ll be safe here! That’s not to mention the incredible bunch of random locals, Northerners (both English and Irish) , Londoners, Scots, Italians and other space cadets you get to meet each year.
But anyway, back to the mix – unfortunately some bellend pulled out the recording gizmo on the boat this year, so Pablo recreated a large chunk of his set, adding a couple of his personal EE favourites from down the years….starting off with the heavenly strings of Quiet Village’s ‘Victoria’s Secret’, aka the sound of sweet water lapping at your feet as you stare out on the Adriatic – we soon get right down to it with a set of crowd pleasing house, disco and modern dancefloor all-sorts.
